The Devil Hates Truth

God has allowed the devil to exercise real influence in the way this world operates. That reality often troubles people and can cast God as distant or unfair. But Scripture reveals a deeper purpose. In order for mankind to possess genuine free will—to choose God rather than function as soulless robots—there must be an opposing voice, an alternative path, and a competing ideology. Truth cannot be chosen unless lies exist as an option.

The devil serves as that opposing agent. He tempts, distorts, and deceives—not because God delights in evil, but because true love and obedience must be voluntary. Without an alternative, obedience would be meaningless. From the beginning, Satan has opposed God by opposing truth itself. Jesus says plainly that the devil “does not stand in the truth” because truth has no place in him.

This explains why lies feel so natural in a fallen world. Deception is woven into systems, culture, and human thinking because the one influencing the world thrives on falsehood. Satan does not usually attack truth head-on. He questions it, reshapes it, and mixes it with just enough error to make it attractive. In doing so, he offers mankind a counterfeit freedom—one that removes accountability while quietly enslaving the soul.

Truth, on the other hand, demands a choice. It confronts pride, exposes sin, and calls for submission. That is precisely why it is resisted. Every time a person chooses truth over deception, they are exercising the very free will God designed—choosing reality over illusion, obedience over rebellion.

The devil hates truth because it exposes him. It reveals his lies, dismantles his influence, and leads people back to God. In a world full of deception, choosing truth is never accidental—it is a deliberate decision with eternal weight.

  1. What Alan said. 🤗 I like to call the devil’s altered version of truth “half-baked.” He always leaves something out—usually the part about how we are not Gods, but are meant to love and follow the one true God.

  2. What a timely post! Our pastor just preached yesterday on the same topic. Truth is so important, especially in our world today where lies and deception abound.
Your post reminds me of a song by Switchfoot, “The Shadow Proves the Sunshine.”
    Have a blessed day, Eric!
