A Special Place

I work a secular desk job at an office. Everyday I sit at a computer designing stamping dies for sheet metal car parts. This has been my job for over twelve years.

Many coworkers have come and gone, and in that time there have been only three that I would call Christians. They attended church and we could discuss things of God during the day.

Those men are now gone and any of that Christian fellowship is gone with them. The daily cuss words, insults, and worldly discussions, however, continue on.

It’s safe to say that my office is not a special place of joy, mirth, gladness, hope, and mercy. The office isn’t where I go to enjoy the presence of the Lord and His people. I don’t sing between cubicles or pray in groups with coworkers. There isn’t a man of God feeding the office with precious truths from God’s Word.

That’s why I love my church. In the sanctuary of my church there is singing, praying, praising, and preaching.

In my office the focus is all about work.

In my church the focus is all about God.

I fully agree with what David says in Psalm 26:8. He declares his love for the sanctuary of the Lord. I have to believe that such love comes from a discontentment with what this world has to offer…there’s nothing like His presence.

My friends, I hope that you have a good church to attend where Gods people dwell sweetly in the presence of the Lord. That’s as close to a sanctuary as we get in this life. But one day, we will dwell with the Lord in His holy sanctuary!

  1. Good morning Eric 😊 I have a question, is not your workstation/cubicle your space, where you can have a wee scripture on display? But yes, our church is a lovely God fearing and loving fellowship. Yesterday was a particularly lovely day with a powerful Word preached and some souls affected by it – hallelujah! May our Father God surround you in His loving presence and give you peace today 🙏

    1. Oh yes, my brother! I have a scripture calendar on display, my New Testament, and three scriptures taped to my monitor. But that pales in comparison to the open worship and praise of my church sanctuary.
But I am glad to have the freedom to display Christ at my job, even in limited fashion.

Have a great day brother Alan!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this today! Every day is a battle for me as I enter my workplace. I pray every morning that I can reflect God’s light to my coworkers, but instead I am met with harsh words and rejection. I do attend a church that is full of the Spirit of God, where I feel accepted and filled with love and joy. I also enjoy praising God in my car every day as I drive to work. He is my strength and shield.

    1. I’m thankful that you also have a good church full of Spirit filled people who love the Lord…I think that is an absolute necessity in this dark world. Keep shining your light and being a good testimony, I have no doubt it’s working in many ways to convict hearts and minds around you.🙏👍🏻

  3. I’m sorry you have to spend the better part of the day without someone you can share your passion for the Lord. Even if your faith is acknowledged silently-His presence can be felt. Maybe one of your current coworkers, or a new coworker, will be influenced by your faith and open up their hearts to Jesus Christ. 🙂
