I Have Protection

I have often pondered the protection of God, especially when I consider the unseen and the unknown. Someone once said that if God were to pull back the curtain and reveal the spiritual realm around us, including the battles being fought for the souls of men, we would faint from the shock. I tend to believe that!

Consider Elisha’s servant in 2 Kings 6. When surrounded by an enemy army, God opened his eyes to see the mountains filled with horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha. The heavenly army was greater than the earthly threat!

Consider Daniel 10, where an angel revealed that he had been delayed by the prince of Persia in bringing Daniel his answer. There was a spiritual battle taking place behind the scenes that Daniel could not see.

Consider Jesus in Gethsemane, where an angel appeared and strengthened Him (Luke 22:43). Or Peter sinking beneath the boisterous waves, only to feel the reaching hand of Jesus pulling him to safety (Matthew 14:30-31).

Now consider your own life.

We often live as though we are in control. I certainly enjoy being in control and don’t even particularly like being a passenger when someone else is driving! (My Dad is the same way, often pumping his foot on an imaginary brake pedal if he thinks I’m driving too fast.) Yet the truth is that every day we are dependent upon the mighty, protective hand of God.

Psalm 91:11-12 declares that He gives His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways. Psalm 34:7 reminds us that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. And we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth (John 16:13).

What a comforting thought! There is so much happening beyond what our natural eyes can see, yet we are never beyond the reach of God’s care.

I don’t know what dangers God has spared me from, what battles He has fought on my behalf, or what unseen interventions have preserved my life. But I know this: I am not unprotected, I am not alone, and I am not on my own.

Today, I am grateful that the God who watches over me never sleeps (Psalm 121:3-4).

I HAVE PROTECTION!
