I Have Provision

One definition of provision is “necessary supplies, such as food and clothing, for a journey.”

Well, we’re all on a journey!

Mine began in Southeast Michigan in 1982, when I was just a little bologna loaf lying in a hospital bassinet. Since then, I’ve bounced between Michigan, Florida, and South Carolina so many times you’d think I worked for a traveling circus!

I’ve been dirt poor, somewhat wealthy, and somewhere in between. I’ve been so hungry I swallowed Tums and Pepto-Bismol, and so stuffed I couldn’t squeeze down another bite of expensive sushi.

But through every season, God has sustained me. I’m still here!

When I was nineteen, I started working at a supermarket deli. I was so broke that I collected returnable bottles just to buy enough gasoline to get to work. I wasn’t even sure I’d make it home!

That morning, I wondered which coworker might lend me twenty bucks until payday. Lunch wasn’t an option. I couldn’t afford it.

Then Dawn, the deli manager, approached me.

“Just so you know, your first day’s lunch is on us. Get whatever you want from the deli!”

I nearly cried.

I made myself an enormous turkey sandwich with potato salad on the side. Later, a kind coworker lent me twenty dollars for gasoline.

God had provided!

Philippians 4:19 reminds us that God supplies our needs according to His riches in glory. Psalm 68:19 declares that He daily loads us with benefits.

Some travelers have fuller pockets than others, but every beating heart depends upon God’s sustaining goodness.

Jesus said not to worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34). Today’s provision is today’s testimony.

And tomorrow? That’s another opportunity to trust our faithful Provider…He faithfully cares for our needs and sustains us along the journey of life.
