Let’s Make a Deal

There was a game show that was slightly before my time, but I remember watching a few episodes of “Let’s Make a Deal”.

Audience members dressed in crazy costumes in order to be noticed by the host, who would pick people at random out of the crowd to play the game.

The host, Monty Hall, would give the contestant a prize of nominal value and ask them if they wanted to risk trading up for a potentially more valuable prize…or settle for their free prize of nominal value. Most people opted to gamble for the chance to get something better. But lurking behind the door of opportunity was often just a garbage can full of old carpeting or a box of old clothes.

I think the Devil is trying to play “Let’s Make a Deal” with Christians everyday. I think he’s looking for believers who are clamoring to gain the riches of this world. They already have the riches of eternal life and the treasure of the Holy Spirit living within…but their flesh is wanting more, more, more!

There is only one reason that Christians are tempted to “trade up for something better than Christ”. Jesus says that the devil only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10) He wants to steal something from you that has eternal value, kill something which has eternal life, and destroy something that is holy and good. Don’t let him sweet talk you!

Christian, there is nothing in this world that is worth trading for your soul or salvation. In a world of self-absorbed, materialistic intentions, don’t let the devil play silly games with your life. You’ve been bought with a great price and have been given a priceless gift called eternal life…don’t deal it away for a temporary pleasure or a trinket that will never last. Let’s NOT make a deal with our flesh and the devil today.

  1. Another gameshow, and another great message, thank you Eric 😊 I am reminded of our Lord’s temptation by Satan when the answer was an emphatic “no deal!” May we have the wisdom and strength of our Lord when the Earl of Hell comes calling, and send him packing with an emphatic “no deal, get on your bike devil!” God bless you today brother 🙏
