We’re Younger Today…

Psalm 119:9 highlights a timeless truth: the safest guide for life is God’s Word. The psalmist asks how a young person can remain on the right path, and the answer is both simple and profound—by ordering life according to what God has spoken. Youth is a season filled with choices, influences, opportunities, and temptations. The habits formed during those years often shape the direction of an entire lifetime.

When young people learn to listen to Scripture, trust God’s wisdom, and obey His commands, they build a strong foundation that can sustain them through every season of life.

Yet this verse is not only for the young. Its principle applies to everyone. Whether we are in our twenties, forties, sixties, or beyond, God’s Word remains the source of truth, correction, encouragement, and guidance. It is never too late to begin cultivating a deeper relationship with the Lord through Scripture.

In fact, there is a helpful perspective to remember: we are younger today than we will be tomorrow! If we wish we had started reading, studying, and obeying God’s Word years ago, the next best time is now. Every day presents a fresh opportunity to align our hearts with His truth. The Lord does not turn away those who come to Him later in life; He welcomes all who seek Him sincerely.

As we abide in God’s Word, it shapes our thoughts, directs our decisions, and transforms our character. The years ahead—whether many or few—can still be marked by spiritual growth and increasing faithfulness.

  1. Amen, brother. If we’re still alive, it’s never too late to strengthen our relationship with God. The thought, “We are younger today than we will be tomorrow,” is profound. However, we must also remember that each day brings us closer to the end of our earthly lives. Regardless of the outcome, it’s crucial to spend our time and resources in a manner that honors God. As always, your thoughts are insightful, brother Eric. May the good Lord’s richest blessings be upon you and your loved ones.

    1. Thanks, brother David for your kind and encouraging words. You’re correct… today I am one day closer to my final heartbeat and the judgment seat of Christ, which is a sobering thought. May we live today in a manner that can be judged to be “well done”!
Have a blessed day, my friend!👍🏻🙏

  2. thank you Eric for reminding us that we don’t need some new exciting thing to keep us in a close walk with the Lord.. It’s plain old day by day faithfulness to God and His Word….Draw close to God and he will draw closer to you…

  3. Excellent post brother Eric. Indeed the truth of this verse applies to all believers in God’s Word. I remember linking this with the prodigal son when he went back to his father; this applies to us when temptations come our way – we must seek our Father and specifically His Work.May you be blessed today brother 🙏
