Part Four: The King’s Prayer

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”
John 17:20

Have you ever read the “High Priestly Prayer of Jesus” in John chapter 17?

Before Jesus was taken into custody by His haters, He prayed to God for His disciples.

He had poured His life into those young men, teaching them the Scriptures and the deep things of God.

He had watched them carefully as they struggled to understand that He really was who He claimed to be.

He knew that His time would soon end, and they would be tasked to take His torch to light the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. So, He went to pray for them.

And when Jesus prayed for them, He also prayed for every single Christian who would be saved far down the line from those early churches…which means that Jesus prayed for ME and YOU who believe in Christ!

As you reflect on Christ this week, heading toward Resurrection Sunday, consider that He had YOU on His mind while headed toward that horrible cross. He prayed for you and me centuries before we were ever born.

Jesus was completely committed to obeying the will of God and saving our souls.

Thank God that He prayed for faithful men and women to pass His torch through the ages to light our way back home. What a King!

Lord, help us to faithfully pray like Christ and pass His gospel light forward to the wayward souls in this generation.
