“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24
I wish that I could paint like
Bob Ross.
But I’m happy enough to watch re-runs of him painting on television. I enjoy the talent that God gave him to bring joy to this world.
I firmly believe that God uses some people like Bob Ross simply to bring joy to others.
No wonder his TV show was called “The Joy of Painting.”
Bob Ross was a Sargent in the Air Force and when he left the service he vowed “never to raise his voice to another human being ever again.”
Bob smiled and painted and “beat the devil out of” his paintbrush while crafting happy little trees, fluffy clouds, gorgeous ocean waves, and beautiful mountains.
He reminded people that it was okay to make mistakes while painting, calling them “happy accidents.”
He loved God’s creation…not only the fantastic landscapes and mountain vista’s that he painted in the space of half an hour, but also the many animals that he rescued and cared for.
In one episode he fed a baby fox squirrel from a tiny bottle.
In another, he showed off a baby robin like a proud daddy.
Does God still make lovely men like that?
Yes, they’ve just become rare.

Some scoff and laugh at Bob Ross for his poofy hair and quirky personality. But he was a genuine rarity in a world filled with lies, violence, and vulgarity.
He was fresh air. No pretenses.
I like people like that, who are untainted by the world and speak softly with a childlike wonderment.
In my book, he was a great man who God used so people could appreciate His creation while learning to paint.
This world could use a million more gentle souls like Bob Ross…today I will try to be one who uses kind and gracious words.

I know Bob Ross is a talented artist, but I didn’t know he was a good and kind man. His respect for God’s creatures is admirable and his artistic treatment for God’s creations is amazing. Thank you for sharing a brief bio of this wonderful man. 🙂

My wife and I will often put on the Bob Ross channel on weekend afternoons. His voice is so relaxing and we’re always amazed at his talent and kindness.
Every time he shows off one of his little animals we get all giddy.
It’s nice to have some TV shows like that…but it’s usually the older ones that still have some morality intact.
God bless you today, Nancy!😀

I love this post Eric about one of my favourite people on TV. I have no artistic talent but I love Bob Ross painting shows; they are such beautiful therapy for the soul. His catch phrases are priceless, such as “everyone needs a friend” as he added another tree are often quoted in our family.
God bless you today brother 🙏

Yes they are therapeutic shows. After my father in law passed on to heaven, my mother in law came to stay with us for a week. She found great solace in just sitting quietly and watching Bob paint for a couple of hours. 👍🏻
It’s hard to be stressed out while watching The Joy of Painting…😆
God bless you today brother Alan!
