Yokemates: Part Two

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”
2 Corinthians 6:14

If you were handcuffed to a career criminal for one day, what do you suppose that would be like?

It would be hard to work at a job with that person. As you work, they’re casing the place looking for an opportunity to steal something.

At the store, you’d fill the cart with groceries, and they’d fill their pockets with whatever they want.

If you were driving, you’d probably just shake your head at an aggressive driver…but the one handcuffed to you might pull out a weapon and shake it at the other car.

How long do you think this should continue? I wouldn’t be able to last long handcuffed to such an individual because I’M NOT MEANT TO BE…and neither are you.

We are called to live a righteous life, meaning that we choose to do the right thing in Gods eyes.
Hanging with people whose words, intentions, and actions are unrighteous can destroy your purpose and testimony if they influence you.

The righteous Holy Spirit will never just “go along to get along” with people. He is trying to lead us in a righteous path, helping us to stay yoked to truth, the Word of God, and other righteous believers.

I can do my best to represent Christ to my worldly coworkers at the Christmas party. I can’t hang around them if they’re drinking, playing poker, spewing profanity, and engaged in sinful practice. These aren’t good yokemates.

However, I can gladly fellowship with fellow believers after church, as we encourage each other to stay bright in a dark world. These are true yokemates with similar purpose.

Your yokemates matter.
