I’m Still Getting Older…Are You?

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5

We had a wonderful opportunity to minister at a nursing home last week.
As expected, every resident was elderly and most used a wheelchair or a walker.

It’s hard to think of those precious older people as little babies whom God formed in the womb many years ago…but that was once their reality.

Now, decades after having a first job, sweethearts, families, careers, blessings, and tragedies, they sit dependent on others for their every need.

Aging is difficult to experience, because eventually our self-sufficiency and decision making are handed off for other people to control.
Nobody wants to be controlled…that’s why so many elderly people are grumpy.
It’s understandably frustrating…but God loves even the grumpiest ones. To Him, they’re as precious as ever.

God had a plan for each of us when he formed us in the womb.
Glorifying Him with our lives is best accomplished during our younger “days of energy”, when we’re best able to serve God.

I’m not a spring chicken, but I’m half the age of the average nursing home resident.
I want whatever time I have left to be used best for God.
In 40 years, or sooner, it could be me alone in the wheelchair and only able to sit and listen to others.

What about you?
Your body isn’t getting younger…I hate to break it to you. So how are we going to serve God and others with the time and energy that we have left?

We have a few precious moments left to glorify God in word and deed. Let’s make them count!

  1. Eric, what a timely post brother! I have been reflecting on my life and how I came to where I am in Him. I am gradually getting closer to sixty and my body is crumbling, and even more so recently. Yet in all this I am thankful to God for His gracious provisions in my life, and the ability that I have to serve Him. I may not be able to evangelise on a street anymore but He has opened other ways for me to share His Word and Gospel. God is Good!
Thank you brother, may He continue to guide and bless you today 🙏

    1. Thanks for that confirmation, brother! I knew the Lord had this post for somebody other than myself today!
You are exactly right…even as we age God still wants to use us, even if it’s just to occupy the prayer closet or spread His Word through blogs and letters of encouragement. Those are POWERFUL ministries and mean just as much as preaching on a street corner.

Have a blessed day, my friend!
      God is faithful.👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏
