A preacher once said, “One problem with churches today is that too much fuss is made of the devil, and another problem is that there’s not enough fuss made of the devil.”
There’s a lot of truth in that statement. Some Christians aggressively rebuke every stubbed toe, runny nose, and leaky roof as being the direct work of Satan himself. Clearly, that’s taking things too far.
But on the other hand, many believers never consider that they are embroiled in a real spiritual battle with a tempter who seeks to lead them astray and destroy them. They rationalize every trial with logic and reason, never considering the work of their adversary—the devil. Yet Peter warns that he’s not just a passive enemy; he’s a roaring lion, seeking to devour (wholly consume) your life and testimony.
If you’re a Christian, you are what the military calls a High Value Target in the eyes of Satan. You represent the light of Christ in a dark world, and he wants that light extinguished. He hates you. If he can capture you through sin and temptation, he can eat you alive with shame, depression, and disgrace. How many pastors, teachers, and televangelists have fallen in scandal—scattering entire ministries and wounding countless souls in the process?
Guard your heart—not with paranoia, but with vigilance. Walk in humility, prayer, and discernment. If the enemy gets through such defenses, God has allowed that. You’re not a victim, you’re a target in a spiritual battle. And remember this: The devil is powerful, but Christ in you is far greater. Let that truth be your confidence today.

Love this! Too much or not enough fuss, indeed. This reminds me of that quote, “The devil’s greatest trick is convincing the world he doesn’t exist.” We must be on alert daily and wear our holy armor to deflect his fiery darts. Have a blessed day, Eric.

I think about that quote often, and I used to scoff at it as non-biblical jargon…but it’s true! I don’t know if that’s his greatest trick, but it sure is a wicked one. If people knew that he is the one behind the evil in this world, they would stop destroying each other and start destroying his dark kingdom. But alas, the devil pits humans against humans and sits back with devious glee.
His day is coming, thank God!
Have a blessed day Heather!

Wise words! You’re right, we have to continually fight off the devil, especially when he tries to iinvade our thoughts. That’s a good opportunity to banish him with the name of Jesus. Thanks, Eric. 🙂
