The Stars, the Sands, and the Sparrows

Scientists estimate there are so many stars in the observable universe that if they were divided equally among every person on earth, each individual could possess nearly 14 trillion stars. God not only created them—He calls them each by name! Scripture says, “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name” (Psalm 147:4). The heavens are immeasurable to us, yet completely known to Him. And if God carefully governs galaxies beyond our comprehension, then surely our lives are not beyond His attention.

Can you name each star in this picture? Don’t bother, God already has them named!

Then there is the sand. Scoop a handful at the beach and try counting even a handful of grains. Impossible! Yet David declared that “God’s thoughts toward us outnumber the grains of sand” (Psalm 139:17–18). Every grain speaks of divine affection. Every shoreline whispers that God’s care is constant, detailed, and inexhaustible. We may feel forgotten in difficult seasons, but heaven’s thoughts toward us are more numerous than every desert and every shore combined.

Each grain of sand represents a thought that God has toward YOU!

And then there are the sparrows. Tiny birds with no barns, no investments, and no visible plan for tomorrow. They dart through the sky appearing to survive on instinct alone. Yet Jesus said “not one sparrow falls to the ground apart from the Father’s care” (Matthew 10:29). God feeds them, guides them, and sustains their flight. The sparrow’s life is not random; it is lovingly overseen.

God cares for you more deeply than these delicate sparrows…He loves to provide for you!

The stars remind us of God’s power.
The sand reminds us of God’s thoughts toward us.
The sparrows remind us of God’s daily provision.

So when anxiety rises and uncertainty grows, remember: the God who names the stars, numbers the sands, and watches the sparrows is more than able to faithfully care for you!
